Jitter exposure changes on S/I mode
I’ve noticed that when I’m using Shutter Priority or ISO Priority mode, the exposure changes in a noticeably stepped/jittery way, rather than transitioning smoothly. Unlike Auto mode, where the exposure adjusts much more smoothly.
I wonder if this is a limitation because S/I modes are essentially manual modes at the hardware level, with Moment automatically adjusting the exposure parameters on top of that.
But I’ll keep submitting this feedback because I’m hoping this can eventually be improved or fixed. 😁✌️
One more thing I’d like to suggest regarding the exposure behavior:
In manual mode, shutter speed and ISO are typically limited to discrete values — for example, 1/50, 1/33, 1/25 for shutter speed, and 200, 250, 320, 400 for ISO.
Would it be possible for Moment’s Auto mode to use finer, continuous exposure adjustments instead of being restricted to those standard hardware steps?
For example, rather than jumping between ISO 200 → 250 → 320 → 400, the Auto algorithm could theoretically adjust the effective ISO continuously, resulting in values such as 234, 287, 341, 396, etc.
Something similar to how Apple’s camera handles exposure automatically, where the exposure can be adjusted much more fluidly rather than visibly stepping between standard ISO/shutter values.
I feel this could make Auto exposure transitions significantly smoother, especially when the lighting changes gradually.

Are you noticing the jitter in photo or video mode? If in video mode, are you using Apple Log?
The auto, shutter, and ISO priority modes already use finer adjustments and are not limited to the discrete “standard” values. There are some quirks in the iOS camera system that can cause jitter for other reasons though.

in video mode absolutely. i tried SDR, HDR, LOG1, LOG2. all modes are jittery as well. exposure jumps step by step not smoothly.

Could you share a quick SDR recording? Jitter in log mode is a limitation I’m trying to work around, but the others should be fine.

Never mind; the issue can happen when switching from a log format back to SDR/HDR. Will fix.

ah yes. you’re right! thanks.

No problem! Merging this with the post for jittery log exposure then.
